Today's Police Gear

By: KenWilson Home | Legal

Police officers have a job full of dangers and risks. When taking a job within the police, the officers accept the risk of being injured or even killed. In order to be able to continue to serve the public, they have to keep themselves healthy and in good shape. Their safety is more important than the offender's safety. The offender may be dangerous or armed, may decide to defy or to comply. The police gear has a very important role in helping the officers to carry out their duties. Still, good tactical gear does not make a good cop: years of training, discipline and great passion for the job are necessary.

Usually, police officers are equipped with firearms, especially handguns, but they make use of this kind of tactical gear only as an ultimate solution. Police officers are not allowed to shoot the first shot unless they or other persons are in real danger. Even if they have to shoot, they should direct the bullets to the soft-tissue areas, like the buttocks or the back of the legs, instead of striking a bone or a joint. So the police gear, especially the impact weapons, must be carefully used and only in self defense or for defense of other individuals. The responsibility which goes with carrying a weapon should be taken very seriously.

The standard police gear also includes non-lethal weaponry, such as batons and accessories, batteries, body armor, camouflage clothing, corrections, disposable gloves, duty bags, duty belt keepers, duty belts, duty boots, duty gloves and accessories, duty suspenders, first aid case, riot control agents, electroshock weapons, rubber bullets, epaulettes and patches, flashing accessories, nightsticks, flashlights, handcuffs and accessories, hats, helmets, holsters, K-9 equipment, key holders, knife cases, knives, leather glove carriers, multi pouches, multi tool cases, notebook bands, notebooks and accessories, radio cases, tactical vests, uniforms, training aids, pepper spray, helmets and face shields, harnesses, ropes and ladders. The tactical gear used by the police officers has to be chosen according to the gravity of the encountered situations.

A lot of details about the police gear are known by the great public especially from movies or news. Many people love to watch crime films or to read detective novels, where they can find interesting things about tactical gear. Batons can be expandable or non-expandable and include side-handle and riot batons. Body armor and ballistic protection include tactical body armor, ballistic combat helmets, ballistic riffle plates, ballistic shields, trauma plates and stab armor. Metal detectors can take two forms: hand held or walk through metal detectors. Pepper sprays can be used for personal defense or for riot and crown control. Corrections include riot gear, gas masks, riot shields, riot helmets, riot batons, pepper spray and stab armor. The officers' tactical gear also includes shooting and weapon accessories, like tactical gun stocks, tactical shotgun accessories, handgun accessories, and weapon mounted lights, hearing protection, cleaning kits, ear plugs, shooting gloves, shooting glasses.

Top-quality tactical gear must provide police officers with all-day comfort, accessibility and discretion, satisfying all their concealment needs and succeeding in helping them in potentially life-or-death situations. In recent years it has become really necessary to bring innovations in the field of police equipment, in order to increase the officers' level of safety. They depend a great deal on their police gear to keep them safe on the job. Supplying them with appropriate police gear can substantially increase their level of safety when dealing with difficult situations.
