Top 10 Qualities Of A Great Radiology Professional

By: The Sider Group Home | Reference-and-Education

The top 10 qualities of a great radiology professional are somewhat different from the qualities that will make you a successful sonography student. In order to do well in school to prepare for a radiology career you will need some prerequisite courses, a good background check and a suitable GPA from any previous coursework. When you go to apply for radiology jobs once you finish school, however, the qualities that employers will be looking for will be more abstract.

These are the top 10 qualities of a great radiology professional that employers will be looking for when you apply for jobs in this healthcare field:

1. Ability to think critically and follow written instructions

2. Ability to understand and decipher complicated written material

3. Calm and rational demeanor

4. Communication and interpersonal skills

5. Emotional empathy, judgment, maturity and stability skills

6. Good hearing, tactile abilities and vision

7. Grammar, spelling and writing skills

8. Learning and functioning skills for both academic and professional environments

9. Mental and physical stamina

10. Skills in sequential sonography examinations

It may sound obvious that anyone in almost any field should have some of these skills, such as a calm demeanor and communication skills, but many job applicants do not display such qualities during interviews or neglect to highlight how they possess these qualities. So, it is best to think ahead and prepare to showcase specific examples of your abilities in these areas. Also, many people do not realize the physical stamina they will need since this job may require lifting as much as 150 pounds and assisting large patients getting on and off exam tables. You must also be able to work long hours on your feet without losing your mental edge and be able to think critically to interpret Doppler signals even when you’re tired and the day is nearing its end.

If you have the preceding top 10 qualities or believe you could easily develop these qualities during radiology school, this could be an excellent job for you. Radiologists have an excellent job outlook and good salary potential in a healthcare career that is both challenging and rewarding.
