Top 5 Tips To Preventing Theft

By: Michael Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

Did you know that theft is one of the most popularly committed crimes all over the word? With one occurring every 14-20 seconds in major cities and the suburbs, at least 3 homes are robbed every minute, 180 homes per hour and 4,320 homes per day. At this rate, over 1.5 million homes â€excluding business, banks and offices- are robbed every year in just one country. Can you imagine just how many are robbed globally? And as much as you would not like to hear it, chances are that yours could be next. To prevent theft and make the process difficult for intending thieves, here are a few tips to help guide you.

No Show-offs please

It is only normal for you to want to show off not because you are proud, but because you are happy about what you have and probably want the world to rejoice with you or make your neighbours green with envy. Unfortunately, you can no longer afford that. We no longer live in a society where you can afford to leave your doors open when you are going to work without fear of anything getting missing.

So, keep a low profile and celebrate with loved ones. If you have any new gadgets like a plasma TV or a new car, be sure to dispose of the pack properly â€not on the sidewalk- and park your car in the garage.

Have a look around

Open up your doors, windows and curtains and walk around your property. Try to spot items that are visible from the outside. If you see any of your valuables from the outside, chances are that it will also attract thieves who will think that there could be even more valuable items at home.

Remove All Attractive Devices, Toys and Equipments

When the kids are done with their playthings, get them off the lawn â€particularly bikes- and into the garage. While leaving the garage open might seem convenient, nothing says that a thief that’s monitoring you can’t walk in, roll the bike or your car and zoom away with it. Only leave the garage door open if you are working outside.

Install security Gadgets

A very good preventive measure is installing security gadgets like CCTVs, hidden cameras, motion detectors, silent and noisy alarms, trip wires and other security gadgets on your property and your home when you are not at home or are travelling.
Usually, these serve as a powerful deterrent. Most particularly, ask your security agency for battery powered gadgets with backup in the event that the thieves shut down power on the property.

Avoid rough neighbourhoods

One of the major places people get their stuff stolen is rough neighbourhoods. If you are going downtown â€say a ghetto or the poor section of a city- take a cab. And if you must go with your own car, ensure that alarms, GPS tracking systems and other security gadgets are installed in your car.

It is sad that we live in a society devoid of trust and where we have to consistently watch our backs. But we all have to adapt if we want to stay prosperous and alive.
So, make use of these tips and you will minimize the risk of thieves breaking into your home and stealing your valuables.
