Traveling To Florida For The Orange Bowl

By: William Hauselberg Home | Travel-and-Leisure

If you are one of the thousands of football fans planning to travel to Florida, one of the key concerns for many will be vacancies at hotels near the Orange Bowl game. The January 2011 event takes place at Sun Life Stadium, located in Broward County, Florida.

There is a wide variety of both affordable and luxurious Orange Bowl hotels, but they can sell out quickly. If you do experience difficulty finding hotel accommodations or airline flights to the area, consider expanding your search to the nearby cities of Ft. Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach, Coconut Creek or Coral Springs. If you do choose one of these outlying areas, look for car rental options as well as shuttle buses that have been contracted to get fans to the game on time.

Come for the Orange Bowl, Stay for some Sightseeing

Winter is a busy time in Florida, and there are lots of other local attractions and activities to enjoy while you're there. Activities associated with the Orange Bowl include Ft. Lauderdale's Downtown Countdown on New Year's Eve, and the Bud Light Game Day Fan Zone held in the NW area of the stadium parking lot. In addition to college football fans, winter visitors include golf enthusiasts that can stay and play at a number of area golf resorts, water sport enthusiasts, and visitors that are looking to enjoy the diverse culture of Miami. Take a tour of the South Beach's Art Deco architecture, stroll through Little Havana, spend the day with the kids at the Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Miami Metro Zoo or Blue Lagoon Water Park located at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa.

There are plenty of opportunities for shopping in any one of a number of malls and neighborhood shopping districts throughout the area, from specialty boutiques and luxury stores to bargain deals at the swap meet. Tours are also popular with visitors, and are offered for a variety of interests from historical tours of downtown Miami to eco-adventures in the Everglades. All of these activities (and more) are generally a short distance from any of the area's hotels.

Ringing in the New Year can be exciting when traveling to a Bowl Game like the Orange Bowl in Florida.
