Types And Features Of Flowmeters

By: Brain Home | Business

FLOWMETERS are generally used in a number of ways but their main or basic aim is just to measure the rate of flow of a certain substance passing through a pipe, tube or chamber.

Why would someone want to do this? You could easily say that one of the reasons is just to assess the well being of the machine that is really being measured. One more reason might be to assess that the machine is operating rightly.

Peak flow meters are mainly used to measure the rate of flow of air out of the lungs. Peak flow meters are used to gauge or assess the condition of lungs of a person. This is also used as part of a test of fitness. However a peak flow meter is commonly used to easily determine whether someone is asthmatic or not and is also used to manage the condition once the problem is diagnosed.

A common type of flow meter is the peak flow meter, in that it uses the method of displacement to mainly determine the rate of flow of air. The method of displacement is a float within a space that is truly confined like a tube or a pipe.

When air generally passes through the pipe or the tube it easily moves the float. The distance that the float generally moves indicates or is a correlation of the rate of flow.

In a number of industries, like food processing, HVAC, water management, chemical and industrial manufacturing there are many needs to measure the rate of flow of various liquids and gases through small or large machinery.

For example, the production of a number of processed foods is automated. There might be a human operator that needs equipments like a flow meter to check that the correct amounts of all the ingredients are going into the machine. If the incorrect quantities are used the food really does not taste correct or might have to be recalled also.

In all types of industries there are a various different types of flow meters. Some of the most common types of flow meters used are the thermal dispersion flow meters and ultrasonic flow meters. They can easily measure the rate of flow of both liquids and also gases so have a number of applications.

Thermal dispersion flow meters have an idea that it mainly uses the change in heat from a certain heat source located within the tube or pipe.

This change in heat will directly be related to the rate of flow of the liquid or gas that is passing through this heat source.
