The utilization of laser machines in the medical science has grown with a good pace in recent years. In almost every field of operations laser machines are used for some or other purposes. Mostly, the laser technology has adopted for utilization in surgical process due to its invasive nature. Some other factors that make laser technology for medical surgery better than other traditional methods are its high precision, swiftness and less painfulness. These days, due to the advancement in technologies, the portable lasers are also arriving in the market that does not require assistance of any medical expert for their use.

YAG Laser (Yttrium Aluminum Garnet Laser) is one such advance laser available these days. There are two types of YAG laser machines available:

â€Nd:YAG Laser: Neyodymium doped.
â€Er:YAG Laser: Erbium doped.

YAG Laser Machines have discovered its utilization in many fields of medical science. These days they are several models of these machines available, each one having its exclusive area of utilization. For instance, in the field of eye surgery, these laser machines are used to punch a hole in the iris for relieving increased pressure in the eye due to glaucoma. Other area of applications of YAG laser machines are skin treatment, hair removal, tattoo removal, birthmark removal, skin cancer, fungal infection, etc.

Nd:YAG Laser Machines utilize the laser beam of shorter wavelength, hence delivers less energy. This laser is best for the purpose of hair removal, as its wavelength is sufficient for the amount of penetration required to strike the follicle of hair lying in the second layer of the skin. This laser is best for dark hair with fair skin tone. While for the case of light color hair, more attempts are required for successful removal.

Er:YAG Laser Machines consist of the laser beam of higher wavelength, thus lesser energy. The laser frequency of these machines is best absorbable by water. Hence they are basically used in the area where water is involved. Some of their chief application areas are acne scar removal, skin discoloration, cutting bones and tissues.
