By: Stephanie Johnson Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Appliances

Doors are one of the most vital parts of any house. The external doors are generally thick and strong as they provide security to the house. On the other hand interior doors add to the dcor of a room. Interior doors should be chosen carefully so that they define the style statement of the occupant. Interior doors also sound proof the room allowing privacy to it's occupants. There are various types of interior doors available in the market.

Anybody planning to install interior doors should carefully think about their need and space availability before purchasing interior doors. From wood to glass and from metal to mirror, people are becoming very experimental when it comes to their internal door. The different types of interior doors are:

Hinged Doors †These are the most commonly used interior door in homes and commercial places. They are hinged along the frame. They can open both inward or toward depending on the fitting. There can be a single panel hinged door or a double panel hinged interior door. These doors usually have a hollow core compared to external doors which are solid. Wood is the most common material while making hinged door but these days fiber glass and plastic is also being used widely especially in the commercial areas.

Folding Door †This is a variety of hinged interior door and is used where there is a scarcity of space as they do not need space while moving. One part of the door is hinged to the frame while the others are hinged sideways to one another which allows them to fold over one another. These doors are generally bi-fold or tri-fold depending on the requirement. Folding interior doors are mostly made of wood.

Sliding Door †This is slowly becoming popular and much sought after when it comes to interior door and closet doors. They generally run sideways on a overhead track. Sliding doors have gained huge popularity in terms of interior door because of the amount of space that they save. They serve best where there is a crunch of space as they do not need any inward or outward movement. These doors are made from a variety of material including wood, glass and metal.

Pocket Doors †They are a type of sliding door which is gaining extreme popularity in modern homes. As the name suggest they slip into a pocket on the wall saving a lot of space serving as an ideal solution for small and compact urban homes. They are mostly made of wood but many designers are experimenting with other materials when it comes to pocket doors.

Interior doors should be bought and installed after a lot of planning. Personal taste, size of the room and budget should be kept in mind while choosing interior door. After all it is not everyday that a person installs interior doors at home.
