Any business reliant on the internet will eventually have to decide whether to use a web hosting solution like colocation or IT outsourcing â'†or else continue to try to do the job in-house. We at Artmotion provide both these important services, and many more besides. What do terms like colocation and IT outsourcing actually mean? IT outsourcing is a way of providing a secure and reliable platform for a companyâ'â"s IT infrastructure, by storing data remotely from the company business, at a data centre. The data centre may be on or off-shore, with the company data stored on a web server, which may be shared or dedicated (i.e. only used by one company). Evidently, the latter option is more expensive, but it is also more flexible as the company can make certain decisions regarding the operating system and hardware, which they couldnâ'â"t do if they were sharing the server. In many cases, companies who opt for dedicated IT outsourcing will use a colocation plan to reduce costs and increase the amount of control they have. With colocation, the client provides their own server. The host provider supplies rack space, power, and metered or unmetered bandwidth. In this case, the client must have a good IT administrator, as a lot of the work falls onto their shoulders. As well as purchasing and configuring the system to their own requirements, they are responsible for the business software, application infrastructure and the operating system. The hosting provider has responsibility for the data centre and networking layers. The entire package forms the IT outsourcing agreement â'†this is why itâ'â"s called colocation.
