Unlocked Gsm Cell Phones: Fun Facts

By: Paul Wise Home | Computers-and-Technology

Aren't we as a society tired of owning things we know nothing about? How many of us own a car and can change the oil. No, how many of us can even change a tire? So few, it's sad really. And what about technology we feel entitled to? Yeah, those unlocked GSM cell phones in your pocket, what facts, if any, do you know about it? Well, now it's time to learn. Nothing major, no test at the end either, just a few random tidbits so that you, and I for that matter, don't always feel like the dredges of society, simply taking what is ours and nothing more. OK, now that you feel sufficiently down on yourself, let's pick you back up.

The first mobile phone was made in 1973 by Martin Cooper, the manager of Motorola. On the matter at hand, Cooper is quoted as saying "People want to talk to other people -- not a house, or an office, or a car. Given a choice, people will demand the freedom to communicate wherever they are, unfettered by the infamous copper wire. It is that freedom we sought to vividly demonstrate in 1973." That first mobile phone, which he used in New York City to make the first mobile call to his competitor, was the size of a brick and weighed over 30 ounces. And today we have the option of Unlocked GSM Cellular Phones, smart phones, camera phones, and the list goes on.

Did you know that California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Washington, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have all banned the use of cell phones while driving? It's true, so watch yourself. And no, just because you have Unlocked GSM Cell Phones doesn't mean the laws don't apply to you.

Here's a good one. Motorola did a study and found that one out of every ten cell phone users has a second cell phone that is secret to those who know about the first. These are used, typically, for affairs as well as secret business meetings. Who wasn't in that 10%? Tiger Woods, that's who.

The Cell Phone Novel is the first, and is in fact real, literary genre to spawn out of the cellular age. The first was published in 2003 by a Japanese man named "Yoshi." These novels can be downloaded and read in Java-based applications and are sent out via text, in increments between 70-100 words, typically.

Now you have some interesting history, random statistics and are in on the new trends of cell phones. So now that you've done a bit of digging and learning about cell phones you can go back to texting your mom on your Unlocked GSM Cell Phones.
