The Swiss Master, world's number 2, Roger Federer stormily defeated Scottish Andy Murray in the US Open final for a fifth consecutive American Grand Slam title. This way he achieved a grand total of 13 Grand Slam titles being now only one short to equal Pete Sampras’ record. Roger Federer has also achieved 34 consecutive set wins at the U.S. Opens since his dbut in 2004. From the very beginning Federer positioned himself by taking the first set as we remembered to see him performing as he did during his best times and this only got better set by set. Federer’s victory was done in approximately two hours time with a final score of 6-2, 7-5 and 6-2 at the Arthur Ashe court in Flushing Meadows. Despite the fact Federer is facing his worse season since he obtained his first crown in 2003; we could see rivers of happiness with this particular triumph, which many of us missed a lot. Federer has been given us proof of improvements as we saw during the US Open semi final game against the Serbian Novak Djokovic. The Swiss’ offensive hits and aggressive style, which were backed up by his flawless serve, made the game more and more interesting also because his met a very full with an equally defensive game. But at the end the Swiss player took advantage and the Grand Slam and now in their personal encounters they are 2-2. With his fifth US Open title the Swiss equaled another record from a known legend, the American Bill Tidden who also won five consecutive US Opens 83 years ago. Federer will be remembered at Flushing Meadows as Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors are always remembered. After a whole year without a major title and only two ATP single titles at Estoril and Halle we saw how Federer recovered that spark of happiness and joy when he won the match against Murray. Andy showed great plays the entire tournament but Federer’s domination was very strong as he pressured the Scottish since the first play of the game and did not allow his rival to release his nerves by playing his first Grand Slam final. Despite, Murray tried to shift strategies during the game by the first 26 minutes of play the first set was already Federer’s. Federer’s strong serve set Murray in a very dangerous situation, the Scott took some advantage of Swiss’ forced errors but it was just not enough to engage back in the fight. Murray who is the Cincinnati Masters winner tried to recover confidence and by the second set both players showed their best tennis reason why it ended in a 7-5 in favor of the Swiss again. After that, Murray’s level began to decrease while Federer’s continued to increase until he closed the game with a powerful smash that carried him direct to the winning. This was the very first time Federer and Murray faced each other at a Grand Slam, although in three previous games also in hard courts these were in favor of the Scott who won this year’s tournament in Dubai and Cincinnati in 2006, while the only triumph of the Swiss was in Bangkok, three years ago.
