Use Of Industrial Lubricants In Engineering

By: Marcus Ronan Home | Business

The industrial lubricants that are used in manufacturing processes or in any piece of machinery help to ensure that the components remain in good working order. These lubricants therefore will ensure that the machine or engine functions properly every time it is used. The main role for any industrial lubricant today is to reduce the amount of friction that could occur between a number of parts within a machine.

Along with these industrial lubricants helping parts to function correctly some have been developed that prevent corrosion and rust on parts of the machinery that does not actually need to move. Many of the lubricants one can buy today have been made from either organic or chemicals (synthetic) materials.

Organic lubricants will have most been produced through refining petroleum, unlike synthetic ones which will have been produced through the mixing of various different chemicals. For the lubricant to reach the piece of machinery or engine it will pass through a series of tubes or pipes and will then be squirted on to the area that needs lubricating from a lube point.

The most common types of lubricants that you will have heard of are grease, oil and silicone. However, there are plenty of other compounds being used for providing lubrication and today a biodegradable version is becoming increasingly popular. The biodegradable types of lubricants now available are often used to oil machinery used in food manufacturing as sometimes by accident it may come into contact with the food.

Every type of lubricant that is available will be divided up into one of two categories. Some lubricants will be classified for use with certain machinery whilst others will be classified for use with specific devices. But no matter what each of them will have undergone numerous tests to ensure that they carry out the task that they are needed to do to the highest standard possible.

As we have mentioned most of the lubricants being used today are made from oil or grease, but some equipment may use water to provide it with the lubrication it needs. The only problem with water is that it is unable to withstand high temperatures. This also goes the same for animal and vegetable based oils used as lubricants.

The best types of oils which can be used for machinery and in order to withstand high temperatures are those made from minerals or which have been synthetically produced. The majority of oils that one will use to help keep a car engine running correctly will have been made from either minerals or synthetic items.

The main aim of any lubricant is to help to ensure the smooth running of the machinery at all times. Certainly a company who maintains their machinery correctly and ensures that the parts remain well lubricated will find that they are able to produce their products far more quickly and efficiently. Today many manufacturing companies who use industrial lubricants are now looking for ways to help improve the environment by actually recycling those that they use.
