Using Anti-spam Filtering To Stop Junk Mail

By: Nicolaas Theron Home |

You need to have an anti-spam filtering program or service that can screen your incoming emails and sort them into wanted email and suspicious email. Spam filtering software will do the job for you. It will automatically sort through your email and send suspicious junk mail to a separate folder.

You may need a spam filter if you desire to be free of spam mail. Spam blocker software blocks messages it decides is junk mail and keeps them from appearing in your inbox. It may accidentally block messages you wanted to read, but on the whole it is quite useful.

Email spam wastes a lot of time and inbox space. This is true for individuals as well as big companies. Companies and individuals want to deal with junk mail safely and easily. This has created a big need for effective anti-spam software.

Spam and spyware may discreetly be using your computer's resources causing it to run slower than normal. You should scan your computer and remove any spyware you find. In extreme cases spammers can actually use your computer to help them distribute their junk mail.

Refrain from displaying your primary address on your website or anywhere else on the World Wide Web. Spammers may see it and add it to their list of harvested emails. You will then keep getting junk mail you did not subscribe to.

Junk mail usually contains either advertisements, product reviews or related marketing material that sounds too good to be true. You are tricked into reading the email by a wonderful headline promising riches or the keys to unlock secrets. Do not respond to these emails or click on any of the links. Rather delete them or put them in a separate folder.

You may also like to use an alternate email when signing up to newsletters or entering it into forms on the web. If this alternate email is somehow compromised, you can then just stop using it and your personal address will still be protected. You can use a free email service to set up a free account. Here are 5 suggestions of where you can do just that.

Windows Live Hotmail -- 5 GB of online storage, fast search, good security.
Yahoo Mail Classic -- secure email service, unlimited storage, good spam filter.
Fastmail -- IMAP access, useful features, few ads.
Inbox.com -- 5 GB of online mail storage, no IMAP access.
Gmail-- unlimited free online storage, easy interface, POP and IMAP access, contextual advertising.

Personalized anti-spam filtering is useful because an individual internet user does not receive the same emails as another person. Anti-spam filtering is about learning to discern between spam mail and your wanted email. Globally trained filters are geared towards use by larger groups of people. They generally perform better than personalized filters.

In conclusion, you can control or block unwanted spam by installing a spam filter or blocker on your computer. You can also ask your internet service provider if they can filter your email on their server. For better control than this you need to install a system to screen and catch emails from known spammer email adresses and also by looking at the wording of the emails. Such a spam filtering service usually comes at a cost but if anti-spam filtering is the way you want to go, you can makes use of a free anti-spam filtering system to stop spam. It does however involve a little bit of effort in setting up.
