Every successful company knows how important people are to the success of the company, and they are constantly on the lookout for new talent that they can add to the pool of talent already present at the company. To that end, many companies use college recruiting to attract bright, young college students to sign up for internships at the company, so that the student might gain valuable experience working at the company and the company managers might better evaluate the student to see if they wish to offer the student a job after he or she graduates. The most prestigious companies will, of course, attract the most talented and intelligent students at such college recruiting fairs. Besides the fame of your company, however, there are other factors that contribute to the number of students choosing to apply to your company for an internship. If you pay attention to these factors, you will be better able to attract bright and intelligent students to apply for an internship at your company. The first and most important of these factors is how your company portrays itself at the college recruiting fair. Your company is represented through the materials that are put up at your booth as well as the recruiters who are manning the booth. In order for you to put your company's best foot forward, you need to select your recruiters carefully and also pay attention to the design and presentation of your company's booth. An attractive and well designed booth and charismatic and knowledgeable recruiters will tell students that you are interested in them and that you are willing to put in the effort to attract the brightest and most talented of them. This puts you in a better position to attract young talent than other companies who simply rely on their brand names to attract students while not paying attention to these other factors. You also need to train your recruiters to recognize students who might be an asset to the company. Because students on an internship could potentially become employees if you are satisfied with their performance during their internship, you need to choose your interns carefully. Otherwise, you would have wasted valuable time and effort training and grooming a student whom you wouldn't hire anyway. Your recruiters should be able to recognize a student who has done extensive research into the company and the industry in which it operates. They should also be trained to ask potential candidates certain questions, which should tell them whether or not the student is compatible with the organization and should be considered for an internship. Finally, you need to be sincere in your commitment to give the student the best experience possible during his or her internship at your company. If you do not, then you can be sure that the news will spread through the student community, and you will have much fewer potential candidates at the next college recruiting drive that your company is represented at.
