Uttarakhand: Tour To Almora Hill Station

Attractive Almora district in the lap of Himalayas is endowed with exceptional natural beauty and is also called as the ‘Switzerland of India’. Besides natural beauty, the district is famous for its rich cultural heritage, exquisite handicrafts, delectable cuisine and exotic wildlife.

About Almora Hill Station:

This charming hill resort was the flourishing capital of the Chand dynasty. The region was earlier under the reigns of the Katuri kind Baichaldeo, who donated this area to a Gujarati Brahmin Sri Chand Tiwari. Later on, the Chand dynasty was founded in Baramandal and Almora was made its capital in 1560, by Kalyan Chand. The beautiful town is set on a 6 kms. Long horse saddle shaped ridge. It affords breathtaking views of the snowy summits of Himalayas and is an excellent place for a peaceful holiday.

Places to See in Almora:

Chitai Temple: This is sacred shrine of Gollu Devta. This famous temple is 6 kms. far form the main city.

Kasar Devi: This temple is situated at the top hill of Almora. It is dedicated to Goddess Kasar Devi.

Nanda Devi Temple: This famous temple is situated at the main market of Almora. This is dedicated to Goddess Parwati. Every year a big fair is organized on that temple.

Mohan Joshi Park: This is a beautiful picnic spot of Almora. Shaped artificial lake is also there.

Deer Park: Famous zoo place of Almora.

Bright End Corner: Picturesque picnic spot. One can see the beautiful Sun set view from there.

Around Almora:

Kosi Temple (10 kms.): This is one of the earliest Sun temples in India. Built in the 12th century by Katuri dynasty.

Gananath (17 kms.): This is famous for its scenic site also very famous for Shiva temple and caves

Jhoola Devi Temple (7 kms.): This famous temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and Lord Ram

Binser Mahadev (19 kms): The Shiva Temple is located on the way to Ramnagar amidst dense forests.

Chilianaula (4 kms.): The Temple of Baba Haira Khan here is located amidst scenic surroundings.

Tarikhet (8kms.): It is famous for the Gandhi Kuti and the temple of Golu Devta venerated in the Kumaon hills.

Chaubatia (10 kms.): This charming ‘Orchard Country’ is known for fruits, Govt. Gardens, and artificial lakes.

How to Reach:

By Air: Pantnagar (127 kms) is the nearest airport to reach Almora.

By Rail: Nearest Railway Station is Kathgodam (90 kms.). It is connected Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata.

By Road: Almora is well connected by Road.
