A garage door is a large door on a garage which can open either manually or by garage door opener to allow the passage of large vehicles like trucks. A common type of garage door consists of several panels of hinges which roll by means of a system that is guided by a roller. The weight of this door is balanced by either a torsion spring system or a pair of extension springs which work on the basis of pulley. There are different types of garage doors like single panel type, sectional garage doors and roller doors. Single panel type has one type of panel where as sectional garage doors are constructed by six to eight panels. But a problem of monolithic panel doors is that the swing up arc of the door generally occurs outside the garage partially. So the vehicle has to stop far away from the door so that car is not hit by the door. Roller doors are constructed by corrugated steel. Steel doors are generally found in three qualities like uninsulated, insulated and double skin steel. Garage openers are needed to open up the garage. This garage opener may be of sophisticated type like when garage is filled up with suffocating fumes, carbon monoxide sensor open the garage door. Fingerprint device can also be used to ensure safety of the garage. For residential purpose overhead door is mostly appropriate. Green technology is taking the initiative to manufacture doors at a low energy cost and reducing wastage. The unused forms are recycled and fused with exterior grade resins and wax to form homogenous door panel with greater strength. Overhead doors are made up of this because it is specially formulated to resist moisture and to protect the door from all extreme environment. The balance of the garage doors should be checked monthly so that one can raise it without any difficulty. The panels should smoothly roll over one another along the tracks and should be stationary at any point of time to avoid accidents. One trained technician should always be appointed to take care of the door. Lubrication is also necessary. Door tracks are not lubricated because dirt get stick to the panels which causes stiffness of it. Light coat of oil is added to the hinges to avoid the noise. A garage door opener is a motor device that opens up the garage door. They are mostly controlled by remote mechanism with control from the car’s owner also by a switch on the garage. Garage door is the largest object that is movable in home. Hence improperly adjusted door opener can apply a strong force which may not open the door in case of emergency. Proper installation of both garage door and opener is needed in order to open it safely and smoothly.
