Water Restoration- Ways To Restore Contaminated Water

By: James Farkenfur Home |

In the event of a flood or a natural calamity, sources of pure water are easily contaminated. Water restoration becomes necessary to purify the water and make it fit for consumption and other usage. Pure water, used for drinking, gets contaminated when it comes into contact with flood water or the water that seeps from sewage. The harmful microorganisms contained in the latter are easily transferred to drinking water. The process by which contaminated water is cleared and made free from all impurities is known as water restoration.

There are various ways to complete the process of water restoration. You can take help from water restoration professionals. They make use of the latest technologies and water restoration equipment to achieve desired results. These include equipments that ensure rapid and easy detection of contaminated water. It is one of the major breakthroughs in the field and serves the purpose of mold remediation contractors, insurance companies, industrial hygienists, water restoration professionals and IAQ consultants.

The equipments help to determine the degree of contamination. This is used as the basis for all subsequent water restoration and treatment. A high level of contamination would result in the water being passed through more tests and cleaning procedures. The results are fast and can be easily interpreted. The equipments are easy to use and display accurate results.

Natural calamities like hurricanes and earthquakes also cause a huge damage to the drinking water distribution network. There are high chances of the drinking water coming into contact with the polluted water. In such a situation, priority should be given to the task of securing the water sources and finding out an emergency or alternate source of fresh water. Water that has been declared as fit for drinking purposes should be stored in air tight bottles so as to avoid any chances of its contamination.

In the event of contamination, boiling of water is the best way to restore it to its erstwhile state. No matter whether the appearance of the water, exposed to the air, is clear or cloudy, it should be boiled for a certain period of time. Boiling of water helps to get rid of the bacteria contained in it. In addition to boiling, one can also use water purification tablets that are readily available in the market. These tablets mix in the water and destroy the water borne microbes.

Liquid Chlorine Bleach is also used for the purification of contaminated water. The chlorine bleach when mixed in an adequate measure corresponding to a certain amount of water kills the bacteria contained in it. However, one should use odorless bleach for this purpose. It should only have hypochlorite as its main constituent. The bleach mixed water should be left aside for half an hour and at the end of it, it should be tested for a mild chlorine odor. In case, the result is not favorable then the process has to be repeated. Apart from chlorine bleach, iodine also serves as an ingredient to purify water. So the next time you land up in a situation where you do not have access to pure drinking water, you are aware of all these water restoration techniques that would help you to get it.
