Web Design No-no’s That Drive Us Crazy!

By: Designzillas Home | Internet-and-Business

The Internet is home to numerous artists, web designers, and digital media masters both professional and novice. While it may offer people the possibility to widely explore their artistic abilities and release information to a borderless target audience, we’ve found that the internet has (for the most part) become far less inspiring.

At Designzillas, we strive on releasing high-quality, creative, and top-notch websites. Unfortunately we’ve found that others take pride in getting the job done quickly and easily. There is a big difference between getting things done efficiently and simply â€cutting cornersâ€, and we choose to deliver our clients with customized results that have been tailored to fit their business needs.

Here are a few areas that drive us crazy to see websites doing!

Utilizing colors that simply don't work

Colors are the perfect means to being able to bring in interest and emotions to your potential audience. They could help add interest to a dreary site filled with text, and also expose and keep a specific mood (such as scary websites using black as a background).

What gets annoying on the subject of colors is when readability is jeopardized, and combinations that are extremely loud and boisterous to the visitor. Whenever readability is compromised, you’re bounce rate will sky rocket (and that’s not a good thing). Making use of just too many colors and colors that don't accentuate one another tend to make the website look wacky and cumbersome, that will result in the website lose whatever trustworthiness it could possibly gain.

Advice: Stick to 3 colors or less.

Way too many clicks to arrive at your destination

Let’s face it; we’re always looking for an end goal when visiting a website. Whether it is to find how to contact a vendor, viewing a portfolio of an artist or purchasing a product online. It’s our goal as Usability Experts to provide a clear â€call to action†that leads the user directly to where we want them to go. Needless to say, nothing gets more annoying than getting lost in a sea of clicks. General guideline says that a maximum of three clicks (but ideally less) really should be adequate for a user.

Advice: Stick to 3 clicks or less.

Extreme graphics that take too much time to load

We love graphics, and we aren’t shy about using them in enhancing our Portfolio. Nonetheless, when your graphics are beyond the requirements of aesthetically enhancing your website’s look you are running the risk of smothering your website’s load time.

Additionally it is useful to remember that not every visitor of your website is prepared with optimal download or Internet surfing speeds; extreme graphics which are too big will take too much time to load. Navigation that's over-the-top and hard to follow.

Overcomplicating the navigation of the website can significantly impede the effectiveness of the website to communicate its content, and may harm the accessibility of several pages to its visitors. During any duration of time while visiting a website, it is necessary to ensure that the visitors have some way in order to follow back their steps and go back to content they earlier accessed.

For simplicity's sake, many websites fix this issue with a constant button present on all pages for website visitors to go back to their main menu page, or their cover page.

Advice: Error with using a traditional navigation structure.

Using Templates for your web presence

Being a custom web design agency, we frown at the term â€Templatesâ€. Although there are some decent solutions for small companies looking to establish themselves with a decent online presence, we’ve found that templates can ruin a web experience.

Imagine you are looking for a web designer in the Orlando area. You search â€Orlando Web Design†in Google and come up with the top 10 results. You click all of the results and pull up the various websites and in doing so you find that 2 of the companies are actually using the same web design template. At that point, you would write off the credibility of both firms and move on to selecting between the other 8 options.

You run a high risk of having your website duplicated, the DOM structure is built for a template, the theme is poorly named and structured, and it’s simply annoying. The disadvantages of using a template completely outweigh the positive spin of being able to get your website built quickly.

Advice: Get a professional web design agency to customize your website.
