Everyone has a different relationship with food. That relationship can change over time depending on different circumstances. Most people have some type of feeling they get when they eat food such as a comforting feeling or pleasurable feeling when they eat certain things. This can be bad if you eat food for comfort since you are not eating because you are hungry but because it makes you feel better and this leads to gaining unwanted weight. If you answer yes to any of the below questions you could have an unhealthy relationship with food. - You eat even if you are not hungry - You feel bad when you eat certain foods that are high in calories - You eat when you are feeling lonely or stressed out - You stuff yourself with unhealthy foods when you are by yourself Now we will take a look at some of the questions above and break them down to see what they can mean and certain things you can do to counteract them. Eating when you are not actually hungry is something many people do. We may eat when our body isn't telling us to due to many different things around us. Eating can be something you do just because you are bored. You often eat when you are not hungry when you are in a social setting just because other people around you are eating lunch or dinner. You must identify when you start eating whether you are doing it because you are hungry or if it is just be triggered because other people around you are eating or it is a certain time of day. Feeling bad about eating certain foods that are high in fat content is usually something our conscious is telling us not to do. Certain foods have been labeled as bad in the diet industry that make you feel like you are doing something wrong if you eat them. Indulging in eating one of your favorite foods from time to time is perfectly fine as a way to reward yourself. People all deal with stress, anger and loneliness in different ways and eating is one way some people cope with these feelings. This can be a very problematic habit if you are obese. Studies have shown a link between why people eat by having them record the feelings they are having before they eat. Obese women are much more likely to eat emotionally than women of normal weight. You have to find a different activity to engage in if you go to eating food when you are feeling emotional. Some possible solutions can be as simple as going for a walk, take a yoga class or meditate or talk to a family member or friend. Indulging in eating high calorie foods when you are only alone can be another bad habit. This usually happens because you feel bad about eating certain foods around people because you think of them as bad foods and that you will be judged. So after restricting yourself for so long from these foods you wait until you are alone and you over indulge and eat more than you should. If you just practice moderation in eating your favorite foods and balance then with healthy and nutritious foods then over eating sweets and fatty foods is easier to avoid.
