What A Contact Lens For Dry Eyes Can Do For You

By: Kaye Fretz Home | Health-and-Fitness

Not everyone would know about contact lens for dry eyes. This is expected because for many people, contact lenses are the reason behind eye dryness and not the treatment for it. New discoveries however are beginning to change the way contact lenses and eye dryness are seen.

Eye Dryness

We all know what we need tears and eye moisture for. They are the eyes' number one defense against dust, particles and organisms that can do damage to the eyes. Not all of us though have sufficient eye moisture all the time. Those who do lack moisture end up suffering from the symptoms of dry eyes such as itchiness and discomfort.

There are different reasons why people suffer from dry eyes. Certain medications, sickness and aging are among some of the possible reasons. You could also be frequently in a dusty or air controlled environment. It is also possible that your dry eyes could be a result of too much work concentration that could prevent blinking. For some people, contact lenses are also a cause.

Dry Eyes and Contacts

Different types of contact lenses promote eye drying in different ways. The rigid ones may tend to shun moisture including the moisture in your eyes. The softer ones on the other hand, may lose their water content in various conditions. The moisture depleted soft lenses may therefore begin taking moisture away from the eyes instead. In some cases, dry eyes may also result from simply wearing contact lenses for a long period of time. The lenses may begin rubbing too much on the cornea.

Solutions

No one has ever heard of contact lens for dry eyes in the past. People however were still able to deal with eye dryness and prevent severe eye irritation. One common way of doing that is to treat your eyes with therapeutic eye drops used without your lenses on. Some drops are also specifically made for contact lenses. There moisturizing effects however will eventually fade.

One common sense way of dealing with dry eyes is to take care of your contacts. You should clean your contact lenses regularly. They should also be taken off when you do not need them or when they need to be replaced.

Modern Contact Lenses

Contact lenses that do not cause dryness may seem too good to be true. There are a couple of popular brands that now actually sell contacts that protect and prevent against dry eyes. These lenses are able to retain moisture better. This reduces the need to use lens moisturizers. You can get a pair of these contacts to correct your vision to simply ease the symptoms of dryness. They are said to be so comfortable that you could forget that you have lenses on.

Contact lens for dry eyes can truly be your best solution for maximum eye comfort. You will definitely worry less about dry eyes. Visit your eye doctor today for proper diagnosis and ask about getting moist contacts.
