Just as many people don’t give much thought to carpet cleaning or drapery cleaning, they also don’t think much about upholstery cleaning. What is upholstery cleaning? Well, upholstery cleaning is where you or a professional upholstery cleaning company uses some form of cleaning solvent to clean the entire piece of upholstered furniture. Upholstered furniture is very decorative. The assorted fabrics and patterns can add color and enhance any room. However you would be amazed at how much use and abuse that favorite armchair or reclining sofa can get when used on a daily basis. If you have pets, and even if you don’t allow them to sleep on the sofa, they will jump up on someone’s legs. Their lovely dirty paws will slide on to the upholstery and bingo; you have dirt accumulating on that sofa. Then the children will be watching television and also eating cookies and drinking milk. Before you realize you have a very dirty upholstered sofa, you should plan on at least vacuuming all of your upholstered furniture at least on a bi-weekly basis. Or if not with a vacuum cleaner than at least brush it down with a brush to get off the dust and crumbs. This will help keep your upholstered furniture looking better and lasting longer. There are two ways you can get the upholstered furniture cleaned. Either do it yourself or hire an upholstery cleaning company. Often carpet cleaning companies will also clean upholstered furniture. So you could have it done when you schedule to have the carpets professionally cleaned. But back to your very filthy sofa. If you choose to hire professional cleaners than you need to get recommendations from neighbors who have had it done or search on line for a company that has been in business a long time or has a lot of positive feedback on their website. However you choose a company, all you have to do is call them to schedule an appointment when they can come clean your upholstered furniture. You might have them also clean your drapes or curtains while they are there. If you choose to do it yourself, you will need to test the fabric to make sure the solution you are using will not cause the fabric to run. That would make your upholstery cleaning very expensive. After you do that you will need to vacuum your furniture. Then you will have to spot clean or pre-clean the very bad stains. Don’t let this sit too long. Wipe it off fairly quickly. Finally you will use a fabric cleaner and clean the furniture according to the directions. Next let it dry thoroughly. You now have clean upholstered furniture.
