What Are Eczema Skin Symptoms

By: Chris Holloway Home |

Eczema is not an allergy itself, but allergies can trigger eczema. Some environmental factors (such as excessive heat or emotional stress ) can also trigger the condition. Eczema is a chronic skin disease reflected due to immunological changes within the body. Eczema is curable only if the immunological disturbance is corrected by internal medicines such as in homeopathy. The red, itchy, and flaky skin that appears in eczema is a result of the skin's inflammatory response to physical or environmental irritants.

Eczema is a common skin condition affecting ten to twenty per cent of children. The exact cause of eczema is not known, it is often hereditary and is thought to be triggered by an allergic reaction to something that the person touches or inhales. Eczema can also be triggered by various foods. Eczema is more common in families where a lot of people have allergies, like asthma and hay fever. Doctors think that eczema is inherited in the genes we get from our parents.

People with eczema often have a personal or family history of allergic conditions like asthma or hay fever. Eczema is treated with moisturizing agents, and if it's severe, may also need to be treated with steroid creams or other prescription ointments. Eczema causes are complex and not well understood, but sufferers do have different bacteria in their guts compared to unaffected people.

Eczema is classified into two divisions: endogenous and exogenous. In the acute stage edema of epidermis progresses to the formation of the interadermal vesicle, which may enlarge and rupture a sticky fluid oozing out with pus and blood from the affected part, which further dries out.

Eczema is also called dermatitis . It is not dangerous, but most types cause red, swollen and itchy skin, and is merely a symptom of an underlying health problem; likely the malfunction of vital organs in the body. A combination of acupuncture, herbal medicines and skin preparations can be useful. There are different types of eczema. Dermatology texts will list a number of conditions under the term eczema and the classification can be confusing.

The aim is to keep the skins moisture levels constant as it is when moisture from the skin is lost that Eczema will cause the most distress. While there are aspects of Eczema care that cannot be carried out without specialist help, this is an area where the sufferer is able to care for their own condition. As it is dryness that makes the Eczema condition worse, using anything that could make this happen should be halted as soon as possible. The use of skin moisturizers or emollients involves only using thinner ointments on areas of the skin that are not flaking or dry. Thick emollients do not dry the skin out unlike aqueous cream which should only be used if the skin is not dry and flaking.

The purpose of these emollients is to reduce the amount of moisture the skin loses especially when washing. Some products have been specially formulated to be dual purpose; for bathing and for after bathing application. The desire to scratch the affected areas is very strong but only makes the situation worse so lotions and excema creams such as Eucerin and ointments like Sebexol and Epaderm can be applied to the skin. Given the choice, eczema emollients are preferable to eczema creams which the skin absorbs very quickly and need to re-applied throughout the day. To reduce the number of skin applications it is preferable to use ointments which are not so easily absorbed into the skin.
