The advent of off the peg suits has meant that most men who wear suits to the office can afford to own up to five suits which they will rotate during the week. Of the suits that they own, two at least will be summer weight. Increasing numbers of men however are moving away from the off the peg men's suits and are opting for handmade or semi bespoke suits and are choosing be personally measured by traditional tailors for that look of elegance, superb cut and easy fit. Having a summer suit handmade in strong lightweight summer fabrics is not as expensive as you might think. Of course, if you want to go to Savile Row to buy a handmade formalwear suit, then this could cost anything from 6,000 upwards. However a well made semi-bespoke Savile Row suit may not be as expensive as you think and could be made for as little as 600. If Italian suits and styling rather than traditional English are more your thing, then there are any number of lightweight suits for men available for both office and formalwear. White cotton summer suits partnered with white muslin shirts and worn with sandals are all the fashion for summer parties this year. Or for that summer office meeting, staying smart and comfortable means keeping fabrics and colours light so stick to tan, beige and grey. A lightweight grey suit will match with most ties and shirts. A beige suit will always match well with brown shoes. If you prefer wool suits, then they too can be worn during the summer months. Choose a light fabric weight of 7-9 oz a square yard. Delicate patterns rather than heavy stripes and herringbone will also help to create that lighter summer look. Whether you can afford a suit that is handmade or semi bespoke, the idea this summer is to create something that looks unique but that remains comfortable to wear in warm weather.
