What Drop Ship Companies Do For Businesses

By: Andy Eliason Home | Internet-and-Business | Auctions

In the world of online selling and online auctions there is constant competition and changing demands. It doesn't matter if you are a small business or entrepreneur or a well established online business with a number of employees, there are drop ship companies that can help you.

Drop ship companies are suppliers that offer their products at discount prices, usually wholesale, and then takes care of all the packaging and shipping needs for the seller.

Sound simple? It is. But let's take a moment and examine some of the benefits of drop ship companies a little closer.

The drop shipping process begins with the seller doing the necessary research on the chosen industry or products. This is an integral step because customer interest and demand can be a very fickle thing. What is popular and sells well one moment is outdated and a dust collector the next. The seller needs to be aware of market trends and react accordingly.

Drop ship companies allow sellers to be extremely efficient in this area. Why? Because when you drop ship products you don't need to buy any up front inventory. Neither do you need to keep any inventory on hand. For the average business this means that you can change your product offerings as quickly as the market demands.

The other benefit of this facet of drop ship companies is the low cost entry point into buying and selling online. With no need to lay out a huge capitol investment for a starting inventory and none of the associated costs for stocking and storing that inventory, almost anyone can get started with drop shipping.

One of the other prohibitive costs of getting started with traditional suppliers is that many of them require the retailer to purchase items in large quantities. A drop shipper, on the other hand, will often allow you to work in much smaller, even individual, quantities. This is just one more factor that will help online businesses to reduce their risks.

The seller, once they have chosen their products and discovered their drop ship companies, is in charge of listing and promoting the product. This can be accomplished in many ways. Some of the more popular choices include selling on eBay or other online auction, or starting a new eCommerce website. Both are valid options, and both have their own benefits and drawbacks.

Online auctions give you a well established customer base. There are already countless visitors to those sites looking for various products, but these sites will have their own rules that you must abide by and fees that you must pay to do business there. Your own site, on the other hand, is all up to you to sell what you want, when you want, and without fees to other companies. However, attracting visitors to your own site can be a challenge, and your total sales can suffer.

But whatever method you choose (you could also use both options), drop ship companies are the perfect partners for you because once you've listed and promoted the product the only real step that is left is to collect the money from the purchase. And once you have made the sale and collected the payment you simply transfer the order, along with the wholesale or discounted cost, to the supplier and then keep the difference as your profit.

The drop ship companies, once they receive the order and the cost, will take care of the rest of the fulfillment process. This includes the packaging and shipping of the product.

The shipping procedures can be a real drain on th average seller, so delegating it to the supplier, who is likely more experienced and efficient at it, is a wise move. Not only will it minimize many of your costs but it will allow you to be more productive with your time, eliminating the time wasted packing up products and waiting in endless post office lines.

Drop ship companies offer online businesses the chance to fully explore their potential by creating an efficient supply chain model and professional fulfillment services.
