What Environmental Initiatives Are Happening Near You?

By: Jamie Francis Home | Food-and-Drink

No matter where you live in the UK you can pretty much guarantee that you’ll only be a stone’s throw away from some very worthwhile environmental initiatives and they will usually be initiatives that anyone with a passion can get involved in. Many large companies and corporations set up initiatives to help the local communities which they serve in order to hit the corporate social responsibility aims and targets which they have set for themselves.

Corporate social responsibility is a really important tool for companies to use, not only to give back to the communities which keep them afloat but also to attract new customers, gain more and more brand trust from existing customers, raise their profile and to do their bit for the natural environment. The important thing for companies to remember is that corporate social responsibility is not just about doing the bare minimum in order to be seen to be doing something but instead to really give back and in return gain loyal customers and the workforce of the future. They can do this by getting involved in environmental initiatives which take place in schools and with young people.

The importance of engaging young people in these initiatives is obvious, to change lifestyles and behaviours before they become too engrained and too difficult to alter and to set education and initiatives in stone for future generations. Companies are in a unique position to be able to provide the upfront costs associated with setting up environmental initiatives and keeping them staffed and going until they essentially run themselves with the help of an army of volunteers.

So what environmental initiatives are happening near you? The best way to find out is to look on the internet or even better, to find a local and influential company and ask them what they’re doing to help the environment, you’ll be amazed at what is going on around you that you were never aware of. Companies offer many schemes such as walk to work schemes for staff, walking buses for school children to save their parents driving them to school, farm to fork educational programmes which teach children all about where their food comes from and running environmental workshops in schools and youth clubs.

To get involved, all you really need is a passion for making a difference, it’s not about knowing as much as you can about any given subject but instead it’s about wanting to change the way we behave in order to save further damage to the environment.
