What Is A Fungal Infection?

By: Leena Kiri Home | Women's-Interests

The fungi can be found in different parts of the body. Here are some of the most common types of fungal infections:
Fungal infection that affects the hair, skin and nails. When it affects the skin, usually begins as a small red area the size of a pea. As it grows, it spreads out in circles or rings. Since the fungi that cause ringworm can live in different parts of the body, ringworm is named differently depending on the affected body part. Scalp ringworm affects the head, and body ringworm affects the arms, legs or chest.

Athlete's foot is another type of fungal infection that usually appears between the toes, but can also affect toenails, plants and the sides of the feet.

Jock itch is a kind of fungal infection that affects the groin and upper thighs. You might think that only men can have children, but also can affect women and girls.

Candidiasis Candida is a yeast-like fungus. This yeast infection mainly affects the skin around the nails and moist areas around body openings. Diaper rash (a rash that sometimes leaves them some babies in the area covered by the diaper) may be a type of thrush, as thrush (white patches sometimes get some babies in the mouth). Girls and women may develop another type of yeast infection in and around the vagina, called vaginal candidiasis.

Why children sometimes develop yeast infections?
Many children get fungal infections. Kids love being together and sharing things. Some of these infections are contagious , which means they easily spread from one person to another. Body contact or sharing combs or brushes with a person who is facilitating the spread ringworm. Because fungi need a warm, dark and damp place to grow, public showers, pools, locker rooms, and even the warmth of shoes and socks can give fungi a suitable environment to reproduce.

The taking of antibiotics can cause yeast infections in some children. Antibiotics kill the germs that make us sick, but can also kill many harmless bacteria in our body. These harmless bacteria normally keep yeast in check by competing with them for the same living space. Hence, when antibiotics kill these harmless bacteria, yeasts can grow at home.

Sometimes the fungus may infect children affected by disorders of the immune system because their bodies can not fight certain types of infections. This is very rare but sometimes happens.
