What Is A Vaporizer?

By: Mill Dave Home | Shopping-and-Products

Put simply a vaporizer is a device that allows individuals to inhale the active compounds of herbs or other types of plant material. Many people use vaporizers for medical reasons and various versions are actually sold in many retail locations. The vaporizer releases the herbs and allows individuals to inhale them and many people say they experience relief. Though a vaporizer can be used for medical reasons many people also use them as a safer way to smoke.

A vaporizer is able to work due to vaporization. Vaporization is not a new process and it occurs very often in nature and most people do not even realize it is going on. Vaporization occurs when a particular compound transforms from one phase to another more specifically from a liquid phase to a gas phase. There are several different types of vaporizers on the market but they can be classified by the method that they use to heat the materials being used. Most conventional vaporizers use some type of electric heating element that comes equipped with a temperature control device. The three ways that vaporizers heat items is by thermal conduction, convection or thermal radiation.

During the process of thermal conduction also referred to as conduction the material is placed on some type of metal plate. The entire plate is heated and the active compounds present in the substance are released. These were some of the first type of vaporizers to be produced for sale on the retail market and they are still currently manufactured. To understand how the process works it is a good idea to grasp exactly what is the process of conduction. Conduction which can also be called heat conduction occurs when thermal energy undergoes a transfer process. During the transfer the thermal energy goes back and forth between nearby molecules in substance. This is caused by what is known as a temperature gradient. This movement or transfer will always go from a higher temperature to a lower temperature and the process works to bring together the temperature differences.

Convection is the next way that heating can occur and during this process the substance being heated does not come in contact with any types of heating element. The process occurs in a totally different mannerism. During this process hot air is allowed to pass though the substance which causes it to heat rapidly. This sudden and rapid heating results in the release of the active compounds present. This form of heating is preferred because it allows more of the active compounds to be released. Many of the vaporizers for sale in retail locations work by this particular form of heating and most high end vaporizers, which can cost hundreds of dollars, heat by the method of convection.

Thermal radiation is the last form that can be used to heat substances and it is also the least used form. In order to start the heating process the substance is put under bright lights. The substance is therefore able to absorb the radiant energy that is released and this causes the temperature to rise.
