What Is Microdermabrasion?

By: Baron Austin Home | Health-and-Fitness | Alternative-Medicine

Microdermabrasion is a facial procedure that removes the layer of dead skin cells from the skin's outermost layer through the use of aluminium oxide crystals. For many woman who are worried over your acne, deep wrinkles, stretch marks or clogged pores problems, you might want to consider microdermabrasion to eliminate these problems entirely.

With the increased popularity of microdermabrasion, a new market emerged for use of it at home. Some home kits include two steps: the first is fine scrubbing grains (commonly aluminum oxide crystals) that are used to remove the first layer of skin. And the second is a replenishing serum, to replace nutrients and moisturizers to the skin. Microdermabrasion home systems can cost anywhere from $15 to $200.

In order to remove minor skin flaws, Egyptian women used to peel the outermost layer of the skin by using fine sand and abrasive marks with alabaster particles. Exfoliation became the trend and since then, women have used several methods and different substances to cleanse and naturally freshen and lighten their skin. In 1985, an Italian specialist performed Microdermabrasion, as we understand it today, for the first time.

Microdermabrasion has many benefits over the more standard, invasive techniques previously used to treat similar problems. For one, it has virtually no recovery time, you can do it on your lunch break and go right back to work afterwards. You might be a little red, but the slight discomfort experienced during the procedure shouldn't affect you once it is over. You will probably even have your co-workers wondering what is microdermabrasion, eager to try something so simple.

Professional microdermabrasion (often just called microderm) is expensive cosmetic procedure that is extremely popular with trendy medical spas and skincare specialists around the world. These facials are offered as an expensive in-office treatment that is done by a trained skin-care professional. Luckily, new scientific advancements allow for new home microdermabrasion facial systems. These home kits allow for more regular consumers to afford this advanced treatment by doing it at home by themselves!

Microdermabrasion has also been referred to as "power peeling" or particle resurfacing. The whole process is very simple and only takes you 20 to 30 minutes to complete it. Afterwards, there is no down time for recovery, and you're able to go about your normal course.

Reduced scarring - It has been shown that long-term, consistent use of microdermabrasion can reduce the signs of scarring caused by acne or other blemishes. It is theorized that the skin works overtime in speeding up healthy cells to the surface of the skin, removing blemishes over time.

Microdermabrasion is touted as an "instant facelift," and it is seen as a great alternative to more invasive procedures, like plastic surgery or chemical peels. The skin has two years, the epidermis, or the outer layer, and the dermis. The epidermis is made of maturing cells that are covered by a layer of dead skin cells, which is called the stratum corneum. This is your protection from the outside world; it keeps dirt, dust, and all but the smallest molecules from entering your skin.

Spa grade microdermabrasion machines are a powerful tool for bringing about drastic improvements in the appearance and condition of skin for many people. They are very successful in helping to diminish elevated acne scars, age spots, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Further, treatments with spa grade microdermabrasion machines also help even out the texture of skin, brighten dull skin, and correct hyper pigmentation problems.
