What Is The Best Way To Lose Weight?

With well over 30% of Americans being obese, more and more people are wondering how to lose weight. However, we all know at least 50 ways to lose it. The question is what is the best way to lose weight?

A big part of answering that question depends largely on you, because each and every person is unique. For example, if you have to avoid letting you're blood pressure get to high, then heavy exercise probably isn't the best thing to do. Similarly, if you have celiac disease, then the high fiber diet probably isn't going to do you any favors. So whichever diet you decide on, make sure that it will work for you without any problems.

The first step in figuring out the best way to lose weight is to understand how we gain weight. Basically, weight is gained in one of two ways: either you gain muscle, or you store fat.

That's pretty much it. In order to gain weight, you have to take in a large enough excess of calories that your body can't burn, so it gets stored as fat. So if an excess of calories is what causes you to gain unwanted weight, then it seems like the most logical explanation is to either take in less calories, or use up more calories, right? That is actually correct. While it is really just that simple, both of those solutions involve quite a bit of work. First of all, if you've been gaining weight you need to figure out how many calories you take in on the average day. So take a little note pad around with you for a week and write down everything that you eat, and how many calories it is. Once you have this baseline established, you can start reducing the number of calories that you take in.

One word of advice: make your changes slowly, don't reduce your calories all at once . This will keep you from making to big a change to quickly and overwhelming yourself. Shoot for no more than a 10% reduction off the top. However, reducing the amount of calories that you take in alone is not the best way to lose weight, it is only half of it. Next, we need to figure out how to use more calories. Now, there are all kinds of formulas to figure out how many calories you are burning at any given time. They can help you calculate how many calories you should be eating a day, but if you're still gaining weight, you are not using enough calories or you have not cut enough out if your diet.

So, what ever activities you're doing during the day, try to do more. The easiest way to do this is while you are watching TV, anytime a commercial comes on do some form of exercise. It really doesn't matter what, as long as you're consistent with it. For example, if you do five jumping jacks every time a commercial break starts and you watch an hour of TV, after a few weeks you will start to notice a huge improvement. Theses are just some small steps to give you a few ideas, the biggest thing you can do is to actually start!
