What Is Your Niche?

By: Home |

Internet marketers can be faced with a difficult challenge when it comes to choosing a niche to start their business in. The first and one of the most important rules that must be practiced when finding a niche is to find out what people want. No matter how great your product seems to you, if it is not what your audience wants, they won't buy and you won't profit, ending in disaster for you.

So the first step that you must make in your journey to finding your niche is to do some research and find out what people want. Internet marketers are much the same as salesmen and like any salesman you need to come up with a solution to your target markets problems.

Once you understand that finding a niche that will provide a solution to your target markets problem is universal, whether you are starting an online business or a brick and mortar business, it is time to find out exactly what it is that people want. Start off by choosing a target market - this can be just about anyone including adults, children, families, pet owners or any large group of people that have something in common.

Reading newspapers, visiting forums, creating surveys that ask your target market what they are interested in and keeping your ears and eyes open to what people are talking about and what they want, are all great ways to find out what your target market is looking for.

There are literally thousands of opportunities out there, just waiting to be marketed. In fact, there are inexhaustible numbers of niches just waiting to be marketed. Simply because what is hot today can be out of fashion tomorrow, never put all of your eggs into one basket when niche marketing. Always be flexible and willing to change your products or services to suit your target market.

If you can think of a never before marketed product or service, you are very fortunate. Most people struggle to think of a product that is both new and salable. This is where many niche marketers go wrong. Many people make the assumption that if a product has been discovered already, that it can't be marketed again. This assumption is wrong. In fact, it is possible to repackage or alter already made products to suit your market.

For example, if you were to market a new type of software that was quicker to download, cheaper to buy or easier to use, people would be interested in it. Even though they already have the same type of product, it is only human nature for people to want to find time saving products that will work faster and better than the ones that they already have.

This works with any type of product or service, from software to children's toys and anything else in between. But keep in mind that if you are using a product that has been marketed before, you need to make it better and, if possible, cheaper than the product that was already being sold.

Once you have researched your market thoroughly and chosen a product that you know is salable, you will then need to research your niche to find out whether it will be profitable. To find out what is profitable, you will need to find out what other Internet marketers are spending their money on. By doing a keyword search on your niche, you can find out what your competition is and how much the keywords you intend to use are making on PPC sites. Other Internet marketers won't spend their hard-earned cash on a market that doesn't already pay them well.

When you know exactly what your niche is and the best keywords to use, all you need to do is market your new product. Just remember that no Internet marketing will make you money without you putting in a great deal of hard work and perseverance. Be patient. Know your market well and, over time, your niche will pay off for you.
