What Kind Of Backlinks Do Google Value?

By: Lifschitz Home | Internet-and-Business | SEO

First thing's first, for those reading this kind of information for the first time, let us explain to you what backlinks mean in a brief summary. Backlinks are links between you and other websites around the internet, whether its through directories, articles, press releases, websites listing your URL on their site, and so on. When you create a backlink, you use anchor text to show Google which keyword you want to rank for in their search engines, and that keyword is mixed in with your website address to give you specific rankings for that search phrase.

While many people spend their daily lives creating backlinks to their websites, they often don't do it in a smart variety. If you have a page rank of 3 for example (which is common for most websites, page rank is a value inherented from Google for every website ever created, a page rank of 0 means you're either a starter or have done little work on your website through it's years to earn a page rank), a page rank of 3 is extremely common since many websites are sitting in the middle, but on a scale of 10, it would still be considered sufficient but not the greatest. Too many people spend their time on quantity and not quality, if you have 500 backlinks with page rank 0, it is equal to me having 20 backlinks with page rank 3-4-5, which means I will end up out ranking you because I'm linked with higher page rank websites (websites which are more relevant, more popular, and have more traffic than most other websites, especially those which rank 0).

Another thing to remember is your relevance, if under 10% of your backlinks are linking to non-relevant websites, than you must increase your relevancy. Relevancy means making sure that your backlinks are placed under the right categories in directories (meaning if you sell SEO services, you place your website URL/Anchor text under internet marketing, SEO, or search engine optimization, web development, and internet). Relevancy becomes extremely important, putting yourself on blogs which talk about other categories lowers the value of your website, especially when you consider tha some people not only place their backlinks on non-relevant websites, but they also plae them on PR 0 websites (page rank 0).

As Google continues to enhance and update it's algorithm, it will continue making it harder and harder for websites to rank on 1st pages, especially in the more demanding industries (computer related, cars, web hosting, SEO, etc). Google will make it harder by making sure that page rank values are looked are more closely (who are your link partners? do you link to the same websites over and over again? This of course drives down your value).

Lastly, many website owners continue to exchange backlinks (even with relevant websites, such as a computer website placing their link and reciprocal link on a computer software or hardware website). Exchanging backlinks is a very poor idea, it can bring down your value and will rank you worse on search engines, and it is no longer a big part of Google's ranking system. Why you ask? Too many people can exchange links, today a website owner can hide his ip, create multiple relevant websites, and link those websites together which would give the website owner an ultimate chain of exchanged links, high PRs, and great relevancy; this would mean that only a small crowd would dominate search engines and the rest of the websites would be flushed out.

Trust us when we say this, where you backlink, whether you're sending your website and links to unique IPs, high page ranks, and websites with traffic and popularity, will matter most if you want to rank high. It's not about quantity, it's about quality back linking and SEO services.
