What To Do In Las Vegas Besides Gambling

By: Jason OConnor Home |

While the bright lights and bling of Las Vegas provide the perfect entry into a world of craps, Blackjack, roulette, and slot machines, there is so much more to Sin City that is quite angelic in its own right. It doesn't matter whether you enjoy the breath of fresh air when exploring outdoor pursuits or you possess a love of culture and the arts, Las Vegas opens its arms and embraces all sorts of interests. With an assortment of nightclubs, sporting events, and family-friendly adventures, Las Vegas is truly the non-stop destination for entertainment that accommodates all.

Explore the Natural Sights

While the casinos on the Strip certainly hoard a chuck of the city limelight, there are many different main attractions associated with Las Vegas that allows visitors to appreciate the natural surroundings of the area. Family fun may begin by experiencing the Valley of Fire ATV tour, which takes participants on a whirlwind adventure through red sandstone formation, brightly colored sand dunes of orange, refreshing streams, intriguing cliffs, and a fun-filled terrain. Rock climbing expeditions may also take place at the Red Rock Canyon, where professional instructors lead the way. Many people also flock to the historic Hoover Dam so they may take a glance at a designated National Historic Landmark. Additional natural gems of the Las Vegas area to consider include the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead.

Enjoy a Show

Whether an infamous headliner steals the show; feathered showgirls parade in an explosion of blue, purple, and pink; or music, song, and color meld in a spectacular theatric presentation, Las Vegas provides some of the best and most popular shows in the nation. Throughout the year, tourists crowd the city in hopes of landing a decently priced ticket to see Celine Dion, David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, or the Blue Man Group. A wide-range of popular shows scattered about Las Vegas include Monty Python's Spamalot, Mamma Mia!, Zumanity (Cirque du Soleil), the Producers, and Le Reve.

Eat Your Fill

Whether you prefer to savor the creative cuisine presented by world-renown chefs like Wolfgang Puck or enjoy sampling a little bit of everything, there is a dining arena made just for you in Las Vegas. A variety of restaurants and the all-you-can-eat buffet playland of food tempt you with succulent seafood, grilled hamburgers, hot fudge sundaes, and international treats. There are also well-known eateries about the city, including the likes of Spago and Planet Hollywood.

Stretch the Credit Card

While some choose to take a chance with their money at a casino, there are those who prefer to get something right up front with their hard-earned dollars. Whether you are looking for the perfect souvenir or want to try on the latest in Las Vegas apparel, there are plenty of shops within Las Vegas to enjoy. Some options to consider include the Fashion Show Mall, the Forum Shoppes at Caesars, the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian, Desert Passage at the Aladdin Las Vegas, or the Ballys Avenue Shoppes with more than 20 specialty shops and boutiques.

Relax

Las Vegas doesn't have to become a stressful memory, especially when you have a slew of state-of-the-art spas and salons to experience a mind-blowing body treatment, wrap, tan, massage, or makeover. Calm and relaxation are offered at establishments, such as the Qua Baths & Spa, Harrah's Spa & Health Club, Rio Spa & Salon, and the Spa at Bally's.

Sporting Activities and Outdoor Pursuits

The active traveler will find plenty of activities to burn off excess energy when touring Las Vegas. The city opens up to a wealth of opportunities, such as mountain biking, skydiving, Indy-style auto racing, and day trips to whitewater rafting adventures. The golf courses in the area are also quite popular with guests. There are more than 20 to consider about the city scene, such as the Cascata Golf Club, Rio Secco Golf Club, or the Legacy. With a backdrop and surroundings of regal mountains, awe-inspiring waterfalls, and beautiful views, you may never want to leave the green.

Family Time

Whether families dive into some of the artistic ventures scattered about the city, visit cool museums, or view some of the exotic wildlife calling Las Vegas their home, there are plenty of family-friendly attractions and activities to consider. Let's take the Mirage for example. Here, you will encounter a 20,000-gallon saltwater aquarium filled with angelfish, pufferfish, and sharks, while the Dolphin Habitat offers a chance to view these cheerful creatures in action.

The Las Vegas Natural History Museum provides hands-on exploration for the kiddies of southern Nevada's plant and animal life, while animated dinosaur exhibits and live shark exhibits entertain the entire family. With sparkling golden intrigue, the Tomb and Museum of King Tut will open eyes wide to a glimpse of ancient Egypt.

Throughout the city, an entertaining Ripley's Believe-It-or-Not museum can be found. The Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Botanical Cactus Garden offers free admission and self-guided tours, where chocolate and more than 350 species of cactus, succulents and desert plants await. Additional family-oriented treats include indoor go-carts at Fast Lap, XPlex Racepark, or entertaining NASCAR events at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Overall, the attractions and activities that the illustrious city of Las Vegas has to offer far exceed what meets the eye. It could take months and months for one to truly capture the essence of this ultra-popular destination, as new shows, shops, entertainment, bars, clubs, and restaurants pop up at any given moment.
