What Will My Beach Wedding Dress Look Like?

By: Terri Burt Home | News-and-Society

So, he has asked you to marry him and you, of course, said yes! After some romantic discussions, you have both decided that marrying on a secluded, tropical beach is what you want to do for your big day.

While he takes care of the location details, you can focus on one of "the" most important questions in a woman's life - what is my wedding dress going to look like? As young girls, many of us have spent countless hours daydreaming about what our dress will look like. But the challenge in this situation, is to find the perfect dress for a beach wedding.

Just because you're not doing a traditional, formal church wedding, doesn't mean you can't have the dress of your dreams. In making your selection, here are a few key things to consider when looking for your beach wedding dress:

· First thing will be to decide on the style of dress you are interested in. Are you looking for something more formal, or perhaps something sleek and simple? Do you want traditional or a very casual beach style?

· The length of the dress is important. Remember that you'll be doing a lot of walking on sand, so a dress that is too long will simply drag. Perhaps a mid length or shorter dress with spaghetti straps or strapless would work well.

· And because you'll be walking in sand, give some thought to your footwear. Unless you have a carpeted path to walk down, expensive stiletto heels are just not going to cut it. Even with a carpet, the uneven surface of the sand will make it difficult to walk gracefully in heels, so you might want to choose a shoe with a wedge sole, flip flops or just go barefoot.

· Platform flip flops work great because your feet are elevated above the sand, which means you'll have less chance of the sand creeping in and sticking between your feet and your shoes as you walk - which can be very annoying and uncomfortable.

· If you decide to go barefoot, you could get some barefoot sandals to dress things up. If you haven't heard of barefoot sandals, these are simply straps slipped around one of your toes and then looped around the ankle, artfully adorned with beads and crystals, with no sole. So, essentially you're barefoot, but elegantly so.

· Ah! The dress color! If you have your heart set on white or ivory that's fine, but why not consider wearing a daring color like red, blue or purple? If you're not that daring, how about a subtle blush pink, light champagne or gold color dress? For a less dramatic, but just as interesting look, maybe you'd prefer some embroidery with a hint of color or a few unique accents provided by beads, sequins, pearls or ribbon.

· Don't forget that comfort is most important, especially on your special day. Look for a dress with lightweight fabric that will move along with you - nothing that will crease or wrinkle easily. Try to stay away from heavy fabrics and don't forget that you'll be under the sun for a long period of time - so make sure your fabric breathes well to minimize perspiration.

· Remember, you'll be out in the sunlight, so choose a dress you can't see through easily. You want a lightweight, breathable material, but you don't want your guests to see more than they came for by seeing right through the fabric. You can always wear a concealing undergarment if this is the case.

· Another very important consideration are your tan lines. Unfortunately, many brides forget about this and find themselves in the awkward position of having unsightly tan lines - which can easily be seen on your wedding day, and in pictures forever. Ideally, you should have no tan lines by the big day. But if you do, make sure that they are covered by your beach wedding dress, or maybe try a self-tanning product to even things out.

What a beautiful idea - a tropical beach wedding with you wearing the perfect beach wedding dress - let the wedding begin.
