There are many companies online offering a free teeth whitening trial. So you can try their product and just pay the shipping and handling. However, in the past, some consumers never even received their trial products and were charged much more than just the shipping and handling costs. Most of these companies mention in their terms that they will charge you only for shipping and handling and that you can cancel the free teeth whitening trial within 14 days. But they don't always make it easy for you to cancel. So how did people get scammed, what is the catch? Not being able to cancel the trial and the cancellation process being made almost impossible by the company i.e. phone calls not being answered and emails being ignored. Subscription bills with other companies which thay had no knowledge of. They had to phone each company to cancel these separately. This wasn't even mentioned in the terms. Big bills, something like $80+ on a premium monthly plan for the so called free teeth whitening trial. And after all that, some of these consumers didn't even get the free teeth whitening trial product they ordered! How can you avoid the scams? I know trying to choose the right company can be difficult. Sometimes the only time you realise something is wrong is when you start seeing the unfamiliar charges on your bank statements. These charges aren't even mentioned in the terms and conditions on the free teeth whitening trial sites. And the sites do look legitimate enough so it's easy to get sucked in. My advice would be to: Google the company name followed by the words "scams" or "complaints" and see what comes up. Make sure it is a real complaint or review website and not just another seller of the "free trial". See if the company has been around for a while, 2-3 years at least. If they are new, you may be better off staying away. You are better off buying from a site that has been around a while. Then you know it has credibility. Also phone the company and make sure you can actually speak to someone. So, if you need to cancel, you will be reassured knowing that you can get hold of someone easily. Try contacting them by phone, via their website and email. Credible companies are more than happy to speak to you over the phone or by email and have nothing to hide.
