By lumping all of your errands together like this, you will not only save yourself the trouble of having to go from store to store back to your home and then from store to store again; rather, you will also be saving yourself gasoline. A classic example of a good way to run your errands would be to organize your errands based on your needs. In order to successfully do this, you must first be really familiar with the area that you live in. For example, if you knew that you needed to go grocery shopping at the Farmer Market and you also needed to drop off some clothes at the dry cleaners, it would help to know if there is a dry cleaners along the way to the Farmer's Market or vice versa. Therefore, when you leave from your home, you are not having to drive out of your way in order to run an errand. Everything that you need to do is all within the same area or along the same route. This is an important aspect to effectively running your errand- doing things with distance in mind. There used to be a time when I wouldn't even think twice about driving twenty miles out of my way to go to the mall then to drive all the way back to my apartment and then drive all the way out of my way to go to someone's house who lived near the very same mall that I had just come from earlier. Instead, a more effective way to re-work this situation would have been to save my trip to the mall for when I knew I would be heading out for my friend's house. But alas, I was too impatient back then to really care. However, today, I don't take any unnecessary trips unless I absolutely have to or if it is an emergency. Another clever way to run errands is to bring a friend who needs to go shopping as well. When you carpool with someone, if the other person is thoughtful, they will usually contribute something towards the gasoline expenses, thereby making it less expensive for you to run out and do whatever errands you need to get done. Besides this, having someone with you provides you with companionship as you try to get your errands accomplished. If you have a flexible schedule in that you work from home, are unemployed or are a stay at home mom, try to run your errands when you know that the streets won't be as crowded. Keep in mind that rush hour is usually between the hours of 6 a..m. To 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. To 7 p.m. Also keep in mind the fact that most schools let kids out between 2 pm. And 2:30 p.m., which means that you will be dealing with soccer moms, slower school buses and increased pedestrian traffic as children walk home from school.
