Which Petsafe Fence Should I Get?

By: Julie Swane Home | Home-and-Family | Pets

PetSafe produce at least 5 different types of invisible fences for different dogs and the different of areas you want to fence off. Because of all these variations, you may wonder which one is the most suitable for what it is you want to do, well we will help you through the PetSafe fence maze in this article. We will discuss ease of use for the different types of fences, the containment area and your dog's personality!

Depending on where you want your fence will depend on which type of fence you go for, e.g. you can get a wireless fence for indoor use, or you can get one for outdoors. Your first option must be the simplest, and that is to choose whether you want an indoor PetSafe fence or an outdoor. If you want an outdoor fence, then you have a couple more things to consider.

The 3 outdoor models to evaluate are PetSafe standard fence, the deluxe model and the stubborn dog fence. All 3 are designed explicitly to fulfill certain requirements. Let"€™s have a look at each one in turn.

Hard to Train Dog

Only dogs who are difficult to train or have a high pain threshold need this collar. This collar if for larger dogs, dogs that are above 20 pounds in weight. It is one of the most powerful fences on the market. You can contain an area up to ten acres with this fence, all you need to do is buy more wire to extend it as the basic product only covers up to a third of an acre.

PetSafe Fence - Deluxe

For most dogs and containment areas, this is the first choice fence to use. You can cover an area up to 25 acres so making it a lot more versatile than either the stubborn or standard fence. To use this fence your dog does not have to weigh as much as the stubborn dog fence, but your dog has to weigh over 8 pounds.

PetSafe Standard Underground Fence

The PetSafe standard underground fence was produced with not only small dogs in mind but cats too, it has the smallest collar receiver, obvious to say it is no good for stubborn dogs. One of the reasons why it can be used on small dogs and large cats is because the collar only weighs 1.2 ounces but the weight of the animal must be over 5 pounds. With the standard PetSafe fence you can contain an area up to 10 acres but remember the original kit comes with only enough wire to cover a 1/3 of an acre so you will need to purchase additional wire to extend the area.

PetSafe Wireless Fence

A wireless fence can throw up a boundary up to 180 ft in diameter from where the transmitter is located. To make the containment area larger than 180 feet, you can buy additional transmitters. The wireless fence is the quickest and easiest to install but is more expensive if you want to cover large areas.
