Why All The Fuss About Rugs?

By: Gregory Garner Home | Home-and-Family

Humans have been making rugs for hundreds of years. A rug can add a touch of life to a room. When the right color, design and style are chosen a rug has the ability to tie an entire room's décor together. A new rug can also add an interesting new design element to a room.

A rug is a covering for a floor. A rug can be used on a hard floor or on top of carpeting. An area rug is a rug that does not cover an entire floor. A full room rug generally covers an entire room's floor.

Rug pads can be used under a rug to keep the rug from moving when people walk across it. Placing a pad under a rug is also good because it keeps the knots of the rug from grinding into the floor.

Many rugs are made with pile. Pile is loops of fabric. Pile is the top layer of a rug. Sometimes rugs do not have pile and are made to be flat.

Rugs can be handmade or machine made. Rugs that are made by a machine are generally cheaper than hand made rugs. Rugs that are made on a machine generally only last about 20 years. The United States, Turkey, Egypt, Belgium, Israel and China all manufacture rugs that are made by a machine.

Hand made rugs are much more expensive than machine made rugs. The reason hand made rugs are expensive is that hand made rugs usually take almost an entire year to make. Sometimes hand made rugs take even longer than a year to make. Designs on hand made rugs will vary slightly as they are interpreted by each individual weaver.

Rugs come in many sizes, styles, colors and shapes. Some rugs are made to accent the décor of a room. Some rugs are made with symbols on them. Other rugs are made strictly as a form of art. Many rugs are hung on walls and displayed as art. In some cases people will combine different designs and styles to create a unique feeling in the space.

Some styles of rugs include Persian, Tibetan, Indian, Caucasian, and European. Some shapes of rug include round, square, rectangle and runners.

If a person is looking for a beautiful way to make a room come to life she should purchase a rug. Any rug, regardless of style, shape, make, hand made or man made is a great way to make a room look gorgeous.
