Why Are Coffee Shops So Popular?

By: Chuggin McCoffee Home | Food-and-Drink | Restaurant-Reviews

If you live anywhere in the United States, then you may have noticed one or two coffee shops on every single corner, namely Starbucks. The coffee culture in the United States can be seen mainly in the amount of coffee shops that have popped up in the past several decades. Even 25 years ago, coffee was not as prevalent in America as it is today. However, nowadays you can find coffee chains as the number one hangout for people of all ages, including one of the best places to have a business meeting.

The main contributing factor to this attraction is the ambience that coffee shops provide. They are welcoming to people of all ages and tastes, even if you are not a coffee connoisseur. These are popular hangouts for teenagers or people who do not drink alcohol because they provide an easy way to socialize without a bar atmosphere. Many coffee shops are also capitalizing on this advantage and offering live acoustic music to provide further entertainment and attract more customers.

The cause of this ambience is the way that most coffee shops are set up. They have soothing music, soft lights, and overstuffed sofas, making you want to stay for hours on end. On top of that, you have the opportunity to drink cup after cup of freshly brewed coffee to finish studying, chatting, or conducting business. The coffee shops of today are much different than those found in the 60s or 70s, which often served coffee and tea with small snacks. In the 50s and 60s, coffee shops were also used for Bible studies by local churches, but that trend did not last long.

Today, the coffee shop is used for a number of purposes, but mainly a social hangout. This gives people of all ages the opportunity to meet and socialize in a non-threatening atmosphere where they can come and go as they please. Interestingly enough, the coffee shop also attracts many different types of people, including business associates who may be meeting with a potential client or discussing a new start-up venture.

In this day and age, many coffee shops are advancing to make Internet users even more comfortable to capitalize on the popularity of the web. You can often find free WiFi available in coffee shops, which encourages customers to stay, study, work, or just hang out. Interestingly enough, there were several coffee shops in New York opposed to this trend because they felt that it caused people to linger for too long. These same coffee shops had a time limit and considered banning Internet use altogether during their peak hours.

Luckily, this is not a nationwide trend, so if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place to work or study, then coffee shops today provide you with the convenience of WiFi connection, live music, sandwiches, pastries, and of course, a fresh cup of Joe! These coffee houses offer a great variety in their coffee selections to meet your taste and preferences.
