Why Do People Use Ancestry Dna Testing?

By: Sean Tan Home |

Crime, criminology and detective fiction has made deoxyribonucleic acid testing a very commonplace word in recent times. Several people are aware of how DNA testing is a much better process than fingerprint analysis to track down a criminal, and some are even awed by it. For them, DNA tests mean a foolproof method of tracking down elusive criminals. But while the uses of DNA testing in investigation are known to everybody, there is one use of this testing that very few people are aware of. That is well-known as DNA paternity test, a special investigative approach to determine the ancestral roots of a person.

The genealogical DNA test basically tells you what geographical origin you belong to. People can find out what continental races they belong to, whether they are Native American, North European, Central European, African, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, East Asian, South Asian or Australian! With this testing, people can know exactly where their forefathers had come from, and can trace back their original geographical roots to up to 150,000 years back.

It is obvious that genealogical DNA test must be quite reputable in the North American continent. Thus the present day America and even Canada is formed largely due to settlement of people from many lands across the world right through the Medieval Ages and afterward, there are a lot of people in these countries who want to know where they originally hail from. They want to literally know their roots. This is the real purpose that DNA testing for ancestry serves. It helps people get a very realistic idea of their racial origins.

Of course this has several supplementary purposes. Like, if someone is adopted, it is very difficult for that person to understand where he/she originally comes from. For such a person, DNA heritage testing could be the closest approach to get acquainted with his/her own historical roots. Sometimes, parents who are planning to adopt children also want to do such a testing to understand where the kid originates from, though many adoption rules would not allow that.

With the world becoming smaller in our times, and people crisscrossing continents and countries and settling quite far from their homeland most of the time, tracing ancestral roots has become much en vogue. Intermarrying has made it much more complicated for progeny to know where they are form. It is quite evident that they may have a question about their ancestral origin when they grow up. DNA heritage testing brings the answer. It helps them to expand the knowledge of their own family.
