Why Integrity Is The Most Important Quality Of Any Mortgage Consultant.

By: Gregory van Duys Home | Finance

You will not have confidence in a consultant (courtier hypothcaire) if you are not convinced that he has integrity.

Integrity has been described as being the quality of an honest, incorruptible person, a person whose conduct is above reproach. Can you really say that this is true of your mortgage counselor? Only if you can say that he puts your interests before the interests of the lender. Otherwise, he does not have integrity. - courtier hypothecaire

If there are any doubts at all in your mind, keep on shopping for another advisor. If you don't have confidence in your consultant, you will not be able to follow his advice and recommendations because they will not be in your interest, but in his bank's.

You have to judge the integrity of your mortgage consultant.

You should interview your mortgage counselor (courtier hypothcaire) just as you would interview anyone else who is going to work for you. Don't tell him what you want, let him do all the talking. If you tell him you are looking for the best rate for a five year loan, for example, he will only focus on that. You want to see what he can offer you. If he is a good mortgage counselor, he will try to learn as much about your situation as he can, instead of just giving you quotes on loan rates.

A mortgage consultant should be able to offer you many products.

If all your mortgage consultant discusses is rates or products, like a fixed five year rate, or an equity line of credit, you can be sure he just wants to make the loan and be done with it. The real savings on mortgages occurs over time, working with a mortgage consultant who can judge your circumstances and package the exact right product for you. This way, you will be able to pay off your loan quickly, without straining your budget (courtier hypothcaire).

You will know you have found a good mortgage consultant if he is able to offer you a number of solutions, as well as a number of lenders. A good mortgage consultant has many products to offer for his clients to choose from.

There should not be a conflict of interest

Your mortgage consultant should not put himself in a situation where he has a conflict of interest - courtier hypothcaire. Certain banks pay an annual bonus to their employees if they get a higher rate of interest from their customers. Remember that the lender wants to make as much money as he can and you want to save as much money as you can. Your consultant should be able to help you!

Long term relationship

A good mortgage counselor should take a long term approach to his client's situation. If he is on top of the market, he will consult with his clients once a year to see if the strategy used is still the best choice, and offer continuing advice.

Advisors who only seek a single quick transaction are a dime a dozen, but a good counselor who keeps in contact with you year after year is a treasure to find

Take the time to find a mortgage consultant who:

Isn't only looking for one fast transaction
Doesn't just shop for interest rates - courtier hypothecaire
Does not have a conflict of interest between you and his bank
Saves you money with a good overall mortgage strategy

If you want to save money over the long run, this is the way to choose a mortgage consultant.
