Windows have been an integral part of any architectural innovation. Window sills act like a strong support that transmits water away from the window or the building. It is fixed on the side jabs of the window and shuts the air opening just below the sash of the window. The best part is that it can be extended either ways and can also form a shelf. Window sills can be built directly along with the frame of the window or can be assembled separately to form a part of the window. It completely depends upon the kind of material that is used for construction of windows or the style of the window. Usually windows manufactured by woods use window sills that are assembled so that it can be fixed and if needed, replaced. Windows constructed with metals like aluminum or others have window sills already attached. Depending upon the requirements, individuals can choose various types of window sills. Usually they are made up of wood, PVC, marble etc., each of these window sills is crafted for specific purposes and are used to enhance the look of the house. Window sills are manufactured for interior as well as exterior purposes. Window sills that are used for interior purposes often extend to form ledge that are also known as window stools. It can also be used as shelf. Exterior window sills are usually made up of stones and other durable materials as these have to witness harsh climatic conditions. Window sills are an easy way to make windows look beautiful and distinct without altering the dcor of the house but it requires routine maintenance. Window sills should be kept seal tight condition and no leakage should be allowed. In case if any damage is found it should be fixed instantly. Wooden window sills require more attention as they are not only exposed to climatic conditions but to termite attack as well.
