Withdrawing From Drugs And Their Effects On The Body

People that battle with drug addiction don't set out to destroy themselves, or everyone and everything in their way. However, these unfortunate consequences are the horrific effects of drug addiction. For most, illegal substances seem to be a way of avoiding emotional and physical pain. They provide the user with a fleeting escape from life and the uncomfortable realities of it like depression and stress. Drugs are abused to create a new reality or what is called a "high" when one does not wish to deal with the emotional, physical, and spiritual reality. An addicted person doesn't believe that it is possible to be happy without the use of substances. There is a fear that life's anxieties will come flooding back.

Addiction or substance abuse is a difficult psychological and chemical issue. A person with an addiction feels cravings that endure even in the face of intensely negative consequences. During a craving, this person misses the drug terribly, and can often start experiences symptoms of withdrawal. Withdrawal includes the physical and emotions problems you feel if you are dependent on a substance and then suddenly stop or reduce your intake of it. These symptoms start to appear when there are decreased amounts of the substance in the blood or tissues. Tapering is important with certain substances and each drug needs to be studied closely.

Symptoms of withdrawal from either illegal or legal drugs and medications depend on the drug or combination of drugs being used. The most common symptoms of are abdominal pain, nausea with vomiting, nervousness, the shakes, seizures, and even death; these can last a few days to a few weeks. Withdrawal symptoms can happen if a person has consistent and heavy use of a drug. This can be extremely uncomfortable without the aid of some professional assistance. A cold turkey approach is not usually advised for certain types of addictions including pain pill habits.

Treatment for these symptoms requires a medical professional's supervision. Substance abuse rehab treatment is the best way to get rid of these symptoms. Sometimes one can take a medication on an outpatient basis without going into a facility. There are many different signs to associated with withdrawal symptoms depending on the drug that is abused. Also, the length of time, dosage and history of the individual is an important factor in creating a plan of action.
