Wondering What Fish Oil Vitamin Is? Here's The Answer

By: V K Rajagopalan Home | Health-and-Fitness

When I first heard the term 'fish oil vitamin', it did sound a little strange to me. After all, fish oil is not a vitamin. But then I came to know that a lot of people are familiar with this term as it is used casually by many. The reason is not hard to guess - a lot of people are under the misconception that anything good for their health has something to do with vitamins.

Now, some of you must be wondering why people often use the term 'fish oil vitamin' if fish oil has very little to do with vitamins. Your doubt is very valid. Fish based oil does not contain vitamins. It contains omega 3 fatty acids which are extremely popular for their numerous health benefits.

Omega 3 fatty acids are extremely good for your health. Health experts all over the world have acknowledged the fact that these fatty acids, when consumed regularly, could boost the immune system and increase the disease resistance capacity of a person to a great extent. They can also reduce the risks of several serious health problems including cancer, coronary artery disease, neurodegenerative diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, high blood pressure, Crohn's disease, and more. Also, they can reduce the level of bad cholesterol and increase the level of good cholesterol in the body.

When it comes to fish based oil, vitamin is not something you should look for. What you should look for is high quality omega 3 fatty acids. How do find such a good fish oil supplement? Let me tell you.

Look for fish based oil supplements made from hoki fish. This type of fish is very rich in DHA - the most important omega 3 fatty acid needed for your body. In fact, a large part of your brain contains DHA only. Most importantly, this kind of fish is only found in very few places in New Zealand where there are no risks of mercury contamination and other types of water pollution. So, hoki is cleaner than most other types of fish found anywhere else in the world. Also, make sure the fish based oil you choose is purified by some reliable purification process like molecular distillation.

There you have it folks. The next time you hear the term 'fish oil vitamin', do not mistake it for some kind of multivitamin health supplement. Remember what you should look for while choosing a fish oil supplement - the right kind of fish purified through the right kind of purification process - and go for the best one.
