Prior to the invention of the television or perhaps the radio, there was probably no single object capable of inspiring more imagination than a quality-made World Globe. The idea of colored nations on some spinning globe representing far off and exotic lands probably inspired more people than almost any other invention in history. Of course, with the invention of new learning tools like the Internet, some people have tried to claim that the infamous World Globe is a thing of the past and no longer has any place in the modern world. However, such people could not be more wrong if they tried. The world may indeed be shrinking as technological advances continue to bring people closer together. While many of us went to schools where the ubiquitous World Globe could be found in almost every classroom, this is not the case in many modern schools. Gone indeed are the days when a student had the luxury of sauntering up to the front of the class to point to some nation on a raised relief globe during some Geography lesson. And while today's students may instead click a mouse when the pointer is on the correct place on the map on a computer screen, the popularity of the world globes continues to this very daybut why? In some cases, people shop for antique globes to place in their offices perhaps as a reminder of the daydreams they once had as children. In other instances, people adorn their desktops with a little globe just to have a little escapism at hand on those long afternoons when the mind tends to wander. The point is, the classic World Globe is about possibilities and far off places where only our imagination has the ability to wander. No television special can ever compare with the human imagination and that longing to explore the world with our mind will never be quenched. Of course, it does not hurt that newer globes being produced by manufacturer's such as Replogle are now making products that are illuminated giving even more raw material to the imagination with which to wander. So, if you have been shopping for someone who is still a child at heart or simply looking to inspire a young mind, look no further than a quality-made World Globe! It will NOT be one of those gifts that is tossed into the trash bin a month later and most people tend to keep their globes throughout their lives.
