Wrinkles - Laugh Lines Are No Laughing Matter

By: Amanda Beaty.. Home |

It is no secret that having smooth skin is considered to be very sexy, so despite their name, having laugh lines is no laughing matter. When you smile and laugh the small wrinkles that appear on the outside corners of your eyes tend to deepen and become more noticeable over time. Keeping these lines and other signs of aging at bay is no easy task, unless, of course, you are able to maintain an ideal weight, keep to the shade, avoid any and all pollution and never laugh. But don't despair; as with all appearances of aging, there are lots of small easy steps you can take throughout your life to minimize the problem.

Though wrinkles tend to get formed on all part of one's body, it is the ones that appear over exposed parts like face, neckline, forearms etc that are of greater concern. Normally we pay greater attention to face, but as summer approaches, the rush to shop for swimming wear does reflect our inherent faults. Yet it may be lot easier to keep the skin healthy if we use sunscreen lotions and avoid yo-yo kind of dieting that leads to periods of weight gain and weight loss.

The skin looses elasticity as it ages and the tissue just beneath the surface begins to break down. Over the years, skin that used to go smooth after being manipulated into a smile, a frown, or a simple turn of the head will eventually begin to show its age. Unfortunately, there is no magic potion that will stop Father Time and Mother Nature from showing on your skin, but that doesn't mean we should surrender the battle to the onslaught of wrinkles.

If you know someone who is a fervent sun worshiper or you are yourself, you know what effect this can have on the skin. Wrinkles will appear more prominently on these sun worshipers, smokers and people who have gained a lost weight at a fast rate.

One fundamental guideline of skin care is to always ensure good nourishment for the skin. For this it is essential to have a properly balanced daily diet comprising of essential vitamins, minerals and other vital elements. According to several dermatological studies, a diet lacking in Vitamin C and crucial fatty acid like linoleic acid, an Omega-6 fatty acid available in flower oils, leads to premature skin aging, atrophy and profuse amount of wrinkles. Similarly, fats and carbohydrates rich diets produce negative and adverse impact on the appearance of our skin.

Sweat, oils, and pollution can clog pores and stress the skin. Using the wrong cleanser could do more harm than good as some soap can dry out the skin causing it to feel rough and others contain harsh ingredients that can cause irreparable damage. Just because a product is endorsed by a celebrity, promises the fountain of youth, or has an attractive name does not guarantee that it will prevent or remove wrinkles.

Be sure to check the list of ingredients before you put anything on your skin, especially your face. If you know you are allergic to any of the ingredients don't use the product and if you see a list of long, complicated, confusing names do a little research to make sure that you are not trading wrinkles for cancer. Presently, the trend is toward natural and organic products, which tend to have a more gentle touch, and many companies are offering new, mild skin care possibilities.

Use a little common sense when it comes to skin care. Even though we all have to play the hand we are dealt - hypersensitivity to the sun or bad genes - doing a little research or choosing to wear a big floppy hat at the beach will go a long way towards keeping you skin smooth and fabulous.
