Yeast Infection Symptoms

By: Tim Fisher Home | Health-and-Fitness | Alternative-Medicine

The more obvious symptoms of infection are redness, itching and a nasty smelling curd-like discharge. There can, however, be far less obvious symptoms of infection that are not so easily detected.  Many of the symptoms associated with yeast infections could also be related to other medical conditions. It is therefore always advisable to get the help of a health professional with the right experience so that you can have the problem correctly diagnosed and can then treat it correctly so that you get rid of it permanently. Some of the more obvious yeast infection symptoms in women may include the following:   -       Itching; -       Pain during urination and sex; -       Cottage cheese-like vaginal discharge †often with a strong yeasty odour. In more serious cases there can also be:  -       Severe swelling of the vagina; -       Painful cracks in the skin due to extreme dryness; -       General tiredness and fatigue; -       Difficulty walking. Some of the more obvious symptoms in men may include the following:   -       Itching and redness of the penis and genital area;  -       Possible well defined smaller rashes close to the main rash; -       Possible white cottage cheese-like discharge. Other yeast infection symptoms may include:  -       Infection of the mouth and throat (oral thrush). This is likely to be thick white lacy patched on top of a red base. These can form on the tongue, palate or elsewhere inside the mouth and may cause pain when eating and swallowing.  -       A red and itchy skin rash †particularly in the folds of the skin. This may have slightly raised edges.   -       Damaged, discoloured, thickened or broken nails is also an indication of probable Candida.   Diaper rash (nappy rash) which does not go when treated with the usual diaper rash creams is an indication of infection. The rash may be itchy and painful with raised edges.   Candida yeast infections can be due to a temporary condition and can therefore clear up on their own or following localised treatment by products available over the counter. There can be complications, however, if the condition is not temporary and is left untreated.  If Candida gets into the blood stream it can cause more serious localised infections in other parts of the body. Symptoms may include joint pains, chest pains, irritable bowel syndrome and acne among others.  Candida can cover the walls of our intestines and disrupt the normal digestive processes. This can inhibit the absorption of essential nutrients which in turn can cause other health problems.  Other potential symptoms are brought about by the Candida producing several toxic substances which can weaken our immune system and attack various key organs in our bodies.  If the Candida becomes systemic it can cause many serious medical problems including heart murmur bleeding disorders, blindness, fever, kidney failure and shock. People with weakened immune systems must take all forms of yeast infections seriously and treat them promptly and aggressively. The infection may indicate that your immune system is not working as well as it should. When Candida overgrowth takes place in the intestine there are a great many possible symptoms that can occur. Many other less obvious symptoms usually accompany the obvious ones.
