Lavasa Women"s Drive is an annual event which is being held for the third time this year. The event has women from all walks of life participate in a drive from Mumbai to Lavasa. This year the event was graced by former Miss World Yukta Mookhey. Lavasa Women"s Drive in its successful consecutive third year was flagged off amidst much enthusiasm in the presence of former Miss World, Yukta Mookhey. Yukta was accompanied by established singer Shibani Kashyap and model Dipannita Sharma at the event. The event supports the cause of cancer and creating awareness for breast cancer amongst women. The proceeds of the event are forwarded to Tata Memorial Hospital, a hospital dedicated purely to the treatment of cancer. The Lavasa Women"s Drive aimed at women empowerment; encourages women to drive and cruise in their cars from Mumbai to Lavasa, a picturesque town near Pune. This year cars will be flagged off simultaneously from Pune as well as Mumbai. Having met with stupendous success in its earlier years, the event has gained much momentum and is one of the most prestigious and sought after events of the calendar year. The event will conclude with an award ceremony in Mumbai on 4th March, 2011 wherein the winners shall celebrate their achievement. The annual event is held every year in the first week of March, keeping in mind Women"s Day that is commemorated worldwide on 8th March. Speaking at the event, Yukta Mookhey said that she was extremely proud to be associated with such a social cause and admired women like Kiran Bedi, Sushmita Sen and Shabana Azmi who have made a real difference to society as much as they have contributed to their profession. While Shibani Kashyap who composed a number exclusively for this event, sang and entertained the audiences, she also wished team India luck for the ongoing Cricket World Cup Championships. Shibani also pointed out the fun element in the event, where women would enjoy themselves as they cover the distances between the two destinations. Sharing her thoughts, Dipannita Sharma said that laws for women are important, but it is for women to feel empowered from within, which shall help them achieve their goals.
